What is Dawnlands?

Dawnlands is a family-friendly natural wine bar and music venue in downtown Westerly, RI that has outdoor seating by on the Pawcatuck River, non-alcoholic drink options and food in a chill and cozy space.

Who created Dawnlands?

Dawnlands is the brick-and-mortar brainchild of artists Sean W Spellman and My Larsdotter. Spellman and Larsdotter previously worked as touring musicians with their respective groups, Quiet Life (see single with Jim James via Rolling Stone here) and My Bubba (see Tiny Desk Concert here). After starting their own music festival and concert series called Westerly Sound in 2017, the series has promoted music, food and film events throughout the country including many years of programming at the United Theater and the Knickerbocker Music Center here in Westerly, RI. Other notable events include a music festival in Midcoast Maine at Otyokwa Cabins co-produced with Wilco’s John Stirratt, a two day festival at Mystic Seaport Museum featuring artist like Hailu Mergia and Whitney, as well as other events and programming on both coasts from art exhibitions in Montauk to block parties in Laguna Beach. Dawnlands is a wine bar on the surface, but with goals far beyond food & beverage service. With the overarching desire to create an independently run community hub for the arts, Spellman and Larsdotter welcome all ages, all disciples and all genres.

What kind of food and drink do you serve?

We serve a curated list of low-intervention natural wines from small independent producers. We also have delicious non-alcoholic drinks and beer from local breweries. Our food menu is small, casual, fast and selected to pair well with what you are drinking. We support small farmers and winemakers.

Whats with the interior design of Dawnlands? Who built the furniture, designed the menu, and created the logo and branding?

Sean W Spellman designed and built the interiors for Dawnlands with a true DIY ethos. With help from friends and using as many local resources as possible, Spellman’s interior design work can be seen throughout the space. All artwork on the walls is original Spellman paintings that are available for sale. The furniture was built using local pine from Thompson’s Sawmill in Hopkinton, RI. Furniture commissions are also welcome by the artist. Notably, Spellman’s previous design and art work has been featured in publications such as Vogue, Dwell, Architectural Digest, Travel and Leisure, Remodelista, and Domino. His artwork can be seen in collaboration with such brands as Gap, Urban Outfitters and Rivian. His fine art paintings grace the walls of award-winning hotels like Hotel Joaquin, Marram, Freehand, The Line, Drift and many more.

Can I rent the space for a private party?

Yes, you can rent Dawnlands as a venue to host a birthday party, a meetup, a co-work event, mixer, social gathering, or any other type of event. Email us for more details.

Do you sell bottles of wine to go like a wine or bottle shop?

Technically, we are not a bottle shop. However, we do have a license to sell wine to-go. Stop in on your way to the beach or a picnic to grab a bottle of wine to-go, just like you would at your local package store or wine shop.
